Halifax December 27th 1848

Sir,

Praying reference to your letter of the 7th Sep last, informing us of the petition of Cap. [illegible, perhaps LeBlanc?] asking remuneration in consequence of the Schooner "Daring" under the command of Cap. Darby having caused his vessel the "S.S. Livingston" serious injury by running into her on the night of the 18th June last, and directing us to inquire into the facts and report such fair terms of compromise should it be our opinion, that the Petitioner had been injured as would enable His Excellency the Lieut Governor, to do justice to the Petitioner, having due regard to the Public interests.

In obedience to your instructions we made immediate inquiry into the merits of the case (Cap. [LeBlanc?] never having appealed to us for compensation) and finding the determination of the petitioner to place the
