Halifax NS 13th [illegible: Nov?] 1848
Sir
I beg leave to inform you that the Spanish Sch.r Bella Maria, Captain [illegible], was wrecked at Sable Island 28th Ult.o and that the Master with two other officers and six Sailors arrived her yesterday in the Revenue Sch.r Daring in a very destitute condition having saved nothing but the clothes in which they stood.
Some of the Materials were saved and are now at Sable Island. Some specie was saved amounting to about $5000 –
The vessel was owned by the Master and he will have a claim for the proceeds after deducting salvage; but the specie is the property
of the
