To His Excellency Sir John Harvey, Knight, Commander, &c &c &c
The Petition of John Nisbet now of Halifax in the County of Halifax, - Yeoman Humbly Sheweth that your Petitioner is a Native of this Province and has Resided herein from his youth - And Your Petitioner was Employd by the Commissioners of Sable Island to perform duty their, and that he was actually employed over two years having Charge of the East End Establishment during that time that your Petitioner was brought from that Island in June Last by the Commissioners to state what he knew concerning the Superintendent of the Island, which he did fairly and Honestly, - And Shortly after your Petitioner was Discharged Contrary to the Agreement entered into between your Petitioner and the Commissioners and his family sent on to Halifax, without Notice of any Kind. That your Petitioner has a large family and has not earned any thing since his Discharge; although he has seeked Employment, and your Petitioner was always under the impression that he would be employed on the Island again when a New Superintendant would be appointed, as the Provincial Secretary having told your Petitioner that he would be indemnified from any injury to be sustained by giving evidence on behalf of the government, And your Petitioner having Served faithfully the Commissioners, and no fault having been found with him that your Petitioner is aware off, - Respectfully Solicits under the Peculiar Circumstances of his case employment again in order that he may be able to provide the coming winter Necessaries for himself and family
And your Petitioner &c in duty bound will ever Pray
