Sir
I am commanded by the Lieutenant Governor to acknowledge your ? which with your official letter to me of the 25th have been carefully perused by His Excellency by whom I am instructed to inform you that he cert]ainly regrets the necessity imposed upon him by the results of an investigation forced upon the present Government by the mutual recriminations and appeals of yourself and the commssioner. The appointment of your successor was a step rendered imperative by the nature of the report made to the Lieutenant Governor, a copy of which you can have if you desire it.
