of Public Property had a Right to expect, that all Information should have been through me in the possession of Government; All that I can say is as Regards the State of the Fulton, and the prospect of saving any part of her Cargo, I fully communicated to the Commissioners in my Letter of the 20th of March last, stating her Condition as she then lay, but the Gale of the 25th of March altered her position and rendered the prospects of Saving the Cargo much more favorable, they are pleased to state that they are willing to give to the Superintendent all the praise to which his Conduct has generally entitled him, yet they feel that they should be wanting their Duty did they not Report, that they have had at times Grave and Serious Charges brought against me, what those Grave and Serious Charges are they do not particularise, therefore I am left without the possibility of an explanation, though fully conscious that whatever they may be I could Repel them and vindicate my Character, after being engaged in the Public Service during a period of Forty years, Diligently spent as I trust in the performance of Duties Incident to my Situation, I hope your Excellency will pardon my little warmth of Feeling at the Imputations Cast at my Character at this advanced period of my Life, And I beg your Excellency to believe that I would not approach the Representative of Majesty in my own vindication, If I were not fully in possession of Proofs satisfactorily to vindicate my Conduct and Character from the Charges and Imputations by which I have been so falsely assailed,
