To His Excellency Lieut. General Sir John Harvey, Knight of the Grand Cross of the most Honorable Military Order of the Bath; Lieut. Governor, and Commander in Chief in and over the Province of Nova Scotia and its Dependencies;

May it please your Excellency;

Being directed by a letter from the Commissioner of Sable Island, dated the first day of June 1848, to proceed to the Capital of the Province for the purpose of giving such In formation of the Management and Condition of the establishment which I Superintend as might be required by the Government, on the Commissioners, I have hastened to embark on board the Schooner Daring, the means of Conveyance provided, so as to reach the Capital on or about the 12th Instant

I have also in Conformity to the Instructions of the commissioners directed Mr. John Nisbett to embark on board the Daring without loss of time, and to be in attendance upon Commissioners at Halifax, I have ordered W. John Stevens (in Charge of the East End of the Lake establishment) deeming him the most competent to the Trust, to assume the Care of the Establishment during my absence, and leaving him full Instructions for his Guidance, at the same time.

Impressing upon the People the necessity of Implicit obedience to all the Lawful Commands that he as their Superior may see proper to give during my absence;

I have taken care to Ship by the Daring the property belonging to the Island already reported, as ready to be Shipped, also such Stores as are Deemed unfit for use that they may be replaced by others;

In the Communication I have received from the Commiss.rs of Sable Island, touching the wreck of the Sch.r Fulton, and the prospect of Saving any part of her Cargo, It is stated by the Commissioners that the public have applied for Information, and not only they but themselfs as Commissioners of Public.
