I could which is what very few Good men could or would have done and particularly either one of the Men that are my [illegible]
They have stated that my Family has been Supported at the Public expence To which I Reply that may Family has in a great measure Supported this Establishment and made it what it is by their hard labour and some of the Females of my Family have done Mens work on it to benefit it and but for the great Labours of my Family here I think that the Establishment would yet have been in the same disgraceful state that it was in when I came to it; They State that they are not aware of my having laid out money for Materials for Building Boats that has not been Refunded to me, To which I Reply that I have laid out Money for Materials for Boats and Money advanced to Hired Servants for Clothing to enable them to do their duty, neither of which has been Refunded to me and soe of the Boats are here yet to be seen; They say that I 1842 I applied to them for Extra Renumeration, for this Extra Service, and to show the world that they considered my claim to be just, they say that they increased my Salary 25 Pounds Currency I answer this is Correct but supposing that I had left the Establishment in 1842, I do not know how that would have renumerated me, Besides I had not fallen out with my Salary which although Tolerable for the Duties of the Superintendant, yet it was not enough to cover the Salary of a Cartwright & Boat Builder too.
They have stated to your Excellency that within the present or past year, they were called upon to Reprimand me for Practices on my part that were Injurious to the Respectability and Interests of the Establishment, To which I Reply that they made a False Charge against me for a Departure in the Case of the Servant, when nothing of the kind occurred And I do not know what I have done to Injure it without it is my working too hard and making too much Money for it, that is Injurious which my Herculean Labours for the Past year fully Proves and the Information that is wanting and which I have often requested, is not yet given and If my Injury is done to the Establishment, It is done by others and not by me of which the Commissioners themselves has the best Right to know;
They have stated to your Excellency, that they have endeavored to meet my views in any way that they could, To this I Reply that they have not met my views, with Regard to Liquor, they have not met my views in sending bad Provisions here, They have not met my views with Regard to the Encouragement of People have to escort themselves to save and make every thing profitable for the Benefit of the Government. No, their Views are Opposed to mine and all the Trouble that I have
