Sable Island Sept 8 1818

Dear Sir,

We arrived safe at the Island but not before the fifth of the month and the weather being blustering. We could not complete our Landing till Today, we have found all right and well on the Island and has got all safe Landed. We could get no Lumber at the Mill, and we are much in want of some, and some boat Lumber. There was a heavy gale of Wind here on the 29th & 31st of August which has blown thousands of tons of sand over the Island, and has covered a great deal of our best mowing ground and I think we shall have a good deal of trouble to get hay for the cattle. the Potatoes have been very much blasted in the tops by the wind. The stock appear very well.
