Isle Sables 30th Sept 1810

Sir
I rec'd yours dated 12th Sept 1810 and Rec'd all the articles ? agreeable to you. Bill of Leadin - but I think sir your - supplys are very scanty, if there should be any wrecks this winter I had not above two days supply of bread kind when the vessel arrived, and as for meat we have none, excepting horse flesh - that Mr. Darby can tell you, and the horse distemper prevail so bad among our cattle so bad that we cant raise any to kill, for out of five calfs we only raised one, and as for what the people say about they saving as much provision as supplyd themselves, it no such thing, for they eat as much as four barrells bread belonging to the Island - but however I shall be more particular about it for the future, as I shall keep a particular acct of the expenditure of the provisions and we tryd to raise some oats, and had a very good appearance of a good crop but unfortunately, a small bird we call the gray bird, destroyd the whole - and the catterpillers was so numourous that the destroyd the greatest part of our garden - and as for the state of our stock stand as follows
9 cows
2 bulls
2 pair oxen
2 yearling heifers
2 spring calves
7 mares
25 hogs in all [illegible - tear in paper] poor and nothing to feed them
