Isle sable August 5 1806
Sir -previous to our sailing from Country Harbour I left a letter with Capt Legett directed to your Honor which he promised to forward the first safe opportunity. we set sail for the island 28th July but meeting with contrary winds did not arrive here until yesterday and soon after we came to anchor the wind [illegible] to SE with torrents of rain but by patience and performance all was safe landed through the dashing waves in tolerable good order and agreeable to the invoice. i found all well on the island well the garden at the west settlement is part cut off by the [illegible] and the late winds but should all grow what appears lively. there will be plenty for our family and so say my neighbours. I brought on with me a negro and expect he will make a good fellow. have discharged from the island
