stranded on the South Side of the Island the 16th Decem'br Laidin with Salt from Roterdam via Lisbon Bound for Boston their lives were all sav'd 13 in No. & most part of their Provisions except bread which was mostly spoil'd the particulars of this Catastroph are entered in my Journal which I hope will be soon order'd before the gentlemen Commissioners in Halifax that my Masters may observe in that manner the powers I am invested with has been abused --- the anchor Cables some Rigging & are taken from the Wreck and laid in a convenient place for Shipping the North Side of the Isle about two miles East of our Flag Staff where I shall soon as possible take o'er at that place the Ship Packets two bower anchors which we have Raised after several tryals -- I have also seized all the cotton that I have found on the Island
I expect 1800 Cwt which is at present in the possession of Mr King - as sircumstances demonstrates to me that the most part of this cotton has been Embezzl'd from the Packets cargo strand'd last May on this Isle which I hope will also be ordered away, & that family as I am sorry to be oblig'd to say they are a dangerous People - I have been preserved on this Island from any threatening dangers - but in the main enjoy'd the blessings of health my Mrs & companion had the misfortune to scald both her feet soon after moving into the house & suffered a deal of pain for six weeks - otherwise has her health well & in good spirits - soon as possible I shall make
