This is to Certify unto whom it may Concern, that the Bearer, Donald Gillis, a Hired Servant on Sable Island had rendered every assistance in his power in the preservations of the Crew and Materials of the Ship Levant wrecked on the 3rd day of August 1847 and that the whole of the crew and materials of the said ship has been saved, and that the said Donald Gillis is entitled to 20/ wreck money,

And further that the said Donald Gillis, hired on the Island for 50/ per month, when the other men were getting 60/ per month and when W'm E Cunard one of the Commissioners was here he promised to pay the said Gillis at the same rate as the other Men was Paid on his producing a Certificate of his being as competent, I accordingly grant him the present Certificate declaring him as well entitled to 60/ per month as some others that are getting at that Rate;

As witness my hand at Sable Island , this 29th day of December 1847
