The Sailors' Memorial, on the south slope below the Citadel (Fort George), was unveiled in 1955 as a National Monument to Canadian Soldiers, Sailors and Merchant Seamen who lost their lives at Sea during the first and second World Wars. The eroded stone were taken down in 1966 and dropped into Bedford Basin as the 'Last Post' sounded.
