''Acadian French Women''

Notes from Piers Accession Book: Photographs of lithographs after daguerreotype photographs of two Acadian-French Women (an old woman and her niece) of Chezzetcook, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, in June, 1856; in their typical dress, each with a basket of eggs, nd hand-knit grey woolen socks with white toes and heels.

The lithographs (marked Lith. of Sarony, Major and Knapp, 440 Broadway, New York") form the frontispieces of Frederic S. Cozzens's "Acadia; or A Month with the Blue Noses," New York, 1859. (The 2nd edition, without the illustrations, was issued at New York, 1877). Each page is 72.0" high and 4.70" wide. These are the only illustrations in the book.

From the original book in Legislative Library, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
