Harry Piers: Museum Maker

''The Bower, off Bowery Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia''

Notes from Piers Accession Book: Photograph of interior of Sir Brenton Haliburton's study or library at "The Bower", Bowery Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia. It occupies a small one-roomed building, with a hipped roof semi-attached to the residential section of the building. View apparently looking East north-east.

The room is as it was in Haliburton's time (he died in 1860) and has a fireplace with a wooden mantelpiece in neo-classic style in vogue at the period. There is also an interesting wooden [carrier] and chair-rail, and a pair of entrance(?) doors with a very flat arched top. Note the peculiar rising hinges of the doors, which were used about 1820-30. The study building is seen at right in the exterior view of "The Bower" (accession number 7162).
