"'Dr.' Jeremiah Lone-cloud''

Notes from Piers Accession Book: Photograph of "Dr." Jeremiah Lone-cloud, alias Jeremiah Luxey, Micmac name Haselma, a notable Micmac indian and medicine man of the tribe, who now claims to be chief or sub-chief for Halifax County. His parents (Luxey) came from Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, be he happened to be born at Belfast, Maine, U.S.A., on 4 July 1852.

This photograph was taken at Pictou, Nova Scotia, at the time of the "Hector" celebration there, 15-21 July 1923, when he was 71 years of age. He wears a coat and head-dress lent him by Tim Malloney, Indian. The coat is said [then] to have been about 75 years old (made about 1848), and was worn by Stephen Malloney (father of [Tom]) when the Prince of Wales was at Halifax in 1860. Stephen Malloney was a great guide and hunted with Col. [Chambly] and Lord Durham. Lone-cloud died April 1930.
