Notes from Piers Accession Book: Photograph of box for ship's papers, which belonged to Capt. Sponagle of the schooner "Industry," when he was rescued by the barque "Providence," 29 December 1868.
"When Capt. Sponagle of the schooner "Industry" was hauled up the side of the receiving barque "Providence," December 29, 1868, in a starving, almost dying condition, he saved this box with the vessel's papers; for his "papers" are the ship-master's [honor]. This box has been presented to Dalhousie College Museum by Mrs. Starr of Bridgewater. It is a momento of great endurance and daring seamanship." Halifax Herald, 21 October 1927.
