Notes from Piers Accession Book: Photograph of oil portrait of Joanna Allen, wife of "Capt." William Birch Brinley of Preston, Halifax County. From portrait on wood panel, 13 x 11 inches, painted by Robert Field, about 1810. (Not signed or dated).

Mrs. Brinley afterwards became the second wife of Hon. S.G.W. Archibald, Halifax, in 1832.

She was born 18 November 1793, daughter of John Allen of Preston, Halifax County, and died at Pisa, Italy, 15 January 1862. On 1 February 1810 she married W.B. Brinley, son of Com. Gen. George Brinley of Halifax.
