Notes from Piers Accession Book:
Photograph of obverse and reverse of undated Silver Medal of "Loyal Associated Refugees." Round, with attached loop at top for suspension. Diameter 33mm (1.30 inches) exclusion of loop. The photograph is slightly enlarged.
Obverse: Heads of King George III and his queen, in ordinary costume, to right; with "Vivant* Rex* & * Regina*" on upper part of edge.
Reverse (poorly executed): Britannia seated on a stepped platform, with shield bearing on it the union flag, all on the right; presenting with her right hand an olive branch to an Indian, on the left. In distance, on right, is the stern of a large vessel with flag above (device obscure, but evidently not a union flag); and behind Indian on left is a palm-tree. Above is "Loyalist Associated Refugees". No date.
Whether this medal refers to the Loyalists who left Boston with [Howe] in 1776, or those who came to Saint John, New Brunswick, later, has not been ascertained.
Date Accessioned: 2 March 1929
