A History of Mining Activity in Nova Scotia, 1720-1992

"Underground Journal from date of the accident of 21 May 1878"

Cover. 20 pages of the journal kept by Richard H. Brown who had succeeded his father as general manager of the Sydney Mines. This journal was started to record events after the deaths of six men from the explosion in the New Pits. Killed were Isaac Greenwell, W. Oram, Murdoch McDonald, Rory McNeil, Edward Melvin, and Robert Hutchison.
