HALIFAX, N. S.

Manager Graham D. A. R. Rendered Yeoman Service.

Too much praise cannot be given to Mr. Graham, Manager of the D. A. R., for the prompt manner in which he organized the first relief train to reach the city after the explosion.
As the public is aware he was at North St. Depot in his private car with his wife and daughter when the explosion took place. The train shed roof was blown to atoms over his head and his car wrecked with many others. By a miracle Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Graham escaped uninjured. Although terribly shaken and appalled by the calamity they managed to get out of the wreckage. and up to Lockman Street where they could form a little idea of what had happened. Seeing that his wife and daughter were unhurt Mr. Graham left them to take care of themselves and immediately started to help bring relief. He walked and ran to Rockingham where he wired to Kentville to "organize a relief train aud send word to Wolfville and Windsor to round up all doctors, nurses and Red Cross supplies possible to obtain. No time to explain details but the list of casualties is enormous."
The medical men who responded at Kentville were Drs. Moore, Webster, Woodworth, Campbell and Sieniewieg. The train left Kentville and picked up doctors and nurses on the way. Wolfville sent Drs. Elliott, G. E. DeWitt, Allan, C. E. A. DeWitt, and nurses Misses Nellie DeWitt, McLauchlan, Mrs. Andrew, Mrs. Greta Harris, Mrs. Patriquin, Miss Ethel Brown, V.A.D.; Dr. Cutten, Acadia; Corp. Ernest Barss, returned soldier; Prof W.A. Coit,Acadia;R.E.Harris, W.C.B.Harris,Hugh Calkin, chemist Fred Rand, chemist;Fred Churchill, chemist; A. J. Woodman, Undertaker.
