British Evacuee Children arriving in Halifax, 1941

At the beginning of World War II, Britain initiated a plan to evacuate British children to Canada and other British Dominions. However, after two vessels carrying 'Guest Children' were destroyed by German U-boats, participation in the plan was seriously eroded. In all, about 3000 children were sent to Canada in 1940-41.
