The Department of Internal Services was established in March 2014. Under the Government Restructuring (2014) Act, the department was given responsibility for public safety and field communications systems and services, as well as a number of internal government services, including environmental services; security support services, risk management and claims; information, communication and technology services; records management; identity and access management; information access and privacy policy; operational accounting, internal audit, payroll client relations and payment transaction services; acquisition and disposal of personal property under government ownership or control; procurement services; superintendence and management of buildings and property; postal services; printing services and the Queen's Printer; and Nova Scotia Lands Inc., Harbourside Commercial Park Inc., Sydney Utilities Ltd. and Sydney Steel Corporation. On 1 April 2015, the department was given responsibility for all aspects of government information access and privacy.
