Cemetery records are another useful resource for family history research. Cemetery records held by the Nova Scotia Archives are mostly transcriptions of the information on tombstones, and are not the actual records of all interments in any particular cemetery.
There has never been a requirement for cemetery records to be deposited at the Nova Scotia Archives. Nevertheless, a sizeable but incomplete body of records has accumulated here over the years.
The Cemetery Records at the Nova Scotia Archives database available on this website features information about more than 2000 cemeteries, graveyards and burial grounds in the province, including whether transcribed tombstone data is available. Please note, some of the cemeteries have been explored and transcribed twice (or more) ... with different results each time.
