Sir,

I have the honor to state for your Excellency information, that agreatly to your desire, I ordered a medical officer on whose intelligence and accuracy of observation I could rely, to proceed yesterday to Hammonds Plains, and to examine minutely into the nature of the disease said to be prevalent among the Black people at that place; the substance of whose Report I have now the honor of submitting to your Excellencey.

The disease which prevails amongst these people, is a modification of the Scarlet Fever of a mild form, it has consequently not been fatal 21 deaths having taken place, of all diseases since the month of October, when the disease first made its appearance, and this is a population as
