Agreably to your Lordships Letter of
the 15th instant the Council were assembled [?] on
Saturday, and having read and considered the
Same with the papers which accompanied it,
and having had before them and examined,
Mr. Chamberlain the issuing Officer to the black
people at Preston, and Mr. Johnson the officer [?]
to those at Hammonds Plains, the Council
came to the following resolutions. ~
First, That a general muster be forthwith made
of the Black people entitled to receive rations
of provisions under the order of the late Lieutentant
Governor Sir John C. Sherbrooke to ascertain their
numbers and places of abode of such as may now
be entitled to rations and distinguish them from
others who may have introduced themselves into
the settlements with the view to share in the
provisions issued.
2nd That the provisions allowed for the settlers at
Preston and its neighbourhood, where the greater
numbers reside be stored at Dartmouth and
issued from thence at such periods as shall be
found convenient to the settlers; as during the
winter months it may be difficult in bad weather,
or when the roads are incumbered with snow,
for the settlers to receive their rations or to carry
