Halifax 20 July 1815

Sir
I agree to supply the Negroes in Health at Melvill Island with the Undermentioned rations [illegible] for four days in the week
1 Bread (30/9)
2 Beef (Fresh)
1 Potatoes on a [Gill?] of Rice
2 Indian Meal
1 Gill Molasses
a Quart [illegible] Beer
1/3 an ounce of Salt
For three Days in the week
2 [illegible] (Salt)
1 Indian Meal
1/2 pint Molasses
1/2 pound Potatoes on a Gill Rice
1 oz Coffee, ground
1 Quart [illegible] Beer
1/3 oz of Salt

The above to be considered a full Ration for a Man, two thirds of which will be allowed to a woman and all Children above 12 years to be rated according to their sex & all under that age to be set off in Rations of one quarter of Mens allowance, under the direction of such persons as may be authorized by the Collection of his Majesty's Customs. The Beef & Vegetables to be made into [illegible] & issued in [masses?] to consist of six grown persons, the contracters, to supply such [masses?], with a [masses?] Pan & every man, woman & Child with a spoon, Pay Cooks & be at every expence except [tindering?] fuel for the sum of him [pena? or pence?], three [farthings?] 9 3/4 [illegible] per head per day.
