Sir
Representation having been made to the Governor that several of the Justices of the Peace in King's County have assumed to themselves the Power of Solemnizing Marraiges, altho,' wholley unqualified and unauthorized for the Exercise of that function, and altho' a Clergyman is there Resident at the Publick Expence for Performing all Ecclelsiastical offices[.?] I am therefore to acquint you, that the Governor desires you may signify to the Justices of that County, that on the first Complaint made to him of this nature, the Kings Council at Law shall have orders to Indict and Prosecute the Person or Persons so Offending for being Guilty of a misdemeanor and Moreover h or they shall Be Displaced from the Commission of the Peace.
