Copy of a Memorandum made at Windsor N.S.
by Mr. Tonge - In or about the Year 1814
addressed to the Rev. W.C. King Rector of Windsor

"Upon looking over old Journals and Minutes I find that this Township of Windsor was originally included in the Township of Falmouth and then distinguished by the name of East Falmouth tho: more commonly called Fort Edward, as a proof of this I observe that the tract of Land granted to Scotts and Tonges in the year 1760 is described as lying in the Township of Falmouth and it includes Wentworth and Georgefield. Gov. Wilmot arrived in Halifax to Command the province 24th September 1763. He paid his first visit to the Country in Sept. 1764. In the beginning of January following I find this place first mentioned by the name of Windsor and again as the District of Windsor but I believe it still remained attached to Kings County for on the 11th Feby 1765 my husband set up for that county at a general Election, the poll was held at Falmouth the 1st of March and I find that several friends who were freeholders only in Windsor went over the River to Vote for him as a County member. The poll was held at Newport on the 4th March when my husband was chosen almost unanimously. The Rev. Joseph Bennett was our first minister. He arrived here in Nov. 1762. His mission was Falmouth Newport Horton and Cornwallis the four towns of King's County he officiated at each in turn but made this last part of Falmouth his place of residence.
