''Dempster's Mill, Victoria Lane''

McAlpine's Halifax City Directory 1890-91 lists James Dempster & Co, Prince Albert Planing and Moulding Mills, at the foot of the south end of Victoria Lane, between South Hollis Street and the harbour. Dempster's Mill manufactured doors, sashes, frames, shutters, moulding, lining and flooring. Kent and Green streets run west from Barrington Street. Victoria Lane ran east of Barrington Street (then called Pleasant Street) just south of Kent St. but north of Green St. Victoria Lane and Prince Albert Steam Saw Mill are identified on H.W. Hopkins, City Atlas of Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1878, Plate K.
