Country Harbour July 26, 1806

Sir Lieut. Hodgson, of this post, being called on business to South Carolina and having two likely negro servants, offer one for sale which I have bought for ten pounds currency has yet seven years to serve, is very stout for his age & active. I take him to the Island in order to discharge two of the lads from it and doubt not but your Honor will allow him reasonable wages – please order the said ten pounds paid to the bearer Mr. Samuel Stevenson or order on acct. of your Honor

James Morris


James Morris writes to inform of his purchase of a 'likely negro servant' from Sir Lieutenant Hodgson, who has been called on business to South Carolina. Morris intends for this servant to be put to work on Sable Island for 'reasonable wages'.
