Custom House Halifax
9th January 1816

Sir

I have to report for His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor information that the Negroes at Melville Island are very much in want of the article shoes, and some other articles of clothing, jackets, trowsers, & petticoats. Will His Excellency be pleased to allow me to sell to much as may be in want any of articles which are at Melville Island and as there will be about fifty pair men & women's shoes, and twelve pair children's shoes required. Will His Excellency be pleased to give an order for getting them.
