I have the honor to state for your Excellency information that agreeably to your desire, I ordered a Medical Officer on whose intelligence and accuracy of observation I could rely to proceed yesterday to Hammonds Plain and to examine minutely into the nature of the disease said to be prevalent amongst the Black people at that place; the substance of whose report I have now the honor of submitting to your Excellency. The disease which prevails amongst these people is a modification of the Scarlet Fever of a mild form it has consequently not been fatal 21 Deaths having taken place, of all diseases since the month of October when the disease first made its appearance and this in a population as
