625. Henry Guest to Gideon White at Halifax. ''I have heard that you have been complain'd of to and Censured by His Excellency in neglecting to take out your Patent as Sheriff of this County and that His Majesty's Service hath been neglected in Consequence. I feel myself personally injured by this insinuation for you know that my Attention to the duties of my Office hath at no time been neglected, but on the contrary the strictest punctuality & Attention has been paid. As I am the only Person who had cause to Complain having performd the duties of that office so many months over the usual time and notwithstanding I forwarded my resignation to His Excellency in due time and was earnestly desirous that some other person should fill the Office of the Sheriff at the expiration. Yet I never did complain to His Excellency on that subject and this you are at liberty to communicate.'' Holograph.
