Halifax 30th Oct 1841

To the Commissioners for Sable Island

Gentlemen

Having arrived in Halifax by the Sisters Capt'n Darby from the Island it becomes my duty to give you a statement of our work and what we have done in accordance to your Instructions

We have erected two buildings, the Sailors house is 40 by 28 feet consisting of two large rooms with fire places and four Bed rooms the Garret is divided in the center with two separate stairs, it is a strong substantial frame, the walls and partitions are of three Inch Plank jointed toung and groved the principal & garret floors is of two & half Inch plank tounged & groved the doors have all locks their is six windows with twelve lights and four windows with eight lights each , a comfortable porch in front with two Doors for accommodation in Stormy weather the roof and walls are all Shingled
The Second house is a strong frame the inside of the frame and upper joists are all plained the walls and partitions are of three inch plank all jointed plained tounged and grooved the Principle floor is of two and a half inch plank plained toung and grooved
