Ernest Buckler died in the Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, on Sunday, 4 March 1984. This obituary appeared in The Chronicle-Herald, 5 March 1984, p. 1.
The following day this newspaper described Buckler as a ''shy, witty, unassuming and enormously gifted man [who] left his beloved Valley and its people immortalized in some of the greatest literary works published in Canada'' (page 6).
