The community of Clam Harbour, located on the “Loop Road” off of Highway 7 is best known for its white sand beach and productive clam flats. Many generations of families have enjoyed this beach which has warmer water than others along this coast, the result of the salt marsh channel that flows in front of the beach. It was a popular location for Sunday School picnics, family outings, camping and the occasional car race. In the early to mid 1900s the Stoddard Hotel brought many vacationers to the area. Before the beach was protected as a provincial park, it was a popular place to learn to drive, as the sand was hard and the beach was wide and long. Today it remains famous for its annual Sandcastle and Sculpture competition.
