Many Eastern Shore communities celebrate special occasions by "going out in the boat". The reason for this outing is unknown, but it may be in celebration of Dominion Day (now Canada Day), as the flag flying suggests a patriotic event. These families have crossed Petpeswick Harbour, likely to picnic at Conrod Beach located at the end of the East Chezzetcook / West Petpeswick peninsula.
