Halifax Public Libraries

Many residents of Halifax lived in the area bounded by North Street, the waterfront, South Street, and South Park Street. Literally just south of both the Commons and the Public Gardens, South Park was in a state of development with numerous vacant lots, row houses, and newly constructed houses that were as yet unoccupied. The residents of South Park Street included commission merchants, clerks, a furniture dealer, a blacksmith, and a judge. Four years after Confederation, the Halifax School for the Blind opened on the corner of South Park and University Avenue.
