Catch of the Day, East Ship Harbour

Pictured here is John William Monk, a fisherman, farmer and carpenter preparing a freshly caught halibut, his catch of the day. He fished for cod, mackerel, herring, and lobster from his father's wharf in East Ship Harbour on Highway 7. This community was once home to a post office, school, mill, gas station and several general stores, now all gone. For over twenty years now a successful mussel farm has operated in the harbour with the harvesting facility located on the eastern side of the harbour.
