A solid brick building with a classy façade graced Queen Street for the better part of a century beginning with its opening in 1892. It originally had seven classrooms with a library, assembly hall and laboratory. In 1957 it operated as an elementary school with the largest student body yet of 636 students with an additional two classrooms. The Digby Academy operated until the new elementary school was built on Shreve Street, Digby, Nova Scotia and opened November 1987.
