Heber Sweeny (1895-1969), one-time mayor of Bridgewater and well-known horseman, purchased a piece of land on the corner of Dufferin and High Streets and built a half-mile oval horse track. His horse “Toll Gate” is said to be buried under the current Bridgewater Shopping Plaza.
