Clare Choirs - Choral singing has always had a special place in the community, especially during family gatherings, church services and religious festivals. It was during these events that people had the chance to enjoy the musical talents of the university students and residents of southwestern Nova Scotia.
In the 1940s and 1950s, a very large choir named "Chorale de la Baie Sainte-Marie" appeared, consisting of 125 mixed voices of singers from Digby to West Pubnico. Little by little, other choirs were formed in the region of Argyle, and the “Chorale de la Baie Sainte-Marie” soon included only inhabitants of the region of Clare and Université Sainte-Anne students.
Beginning in the 1970s, the “Chorale de la Baie Sainte-Marie” and the “Fanfare régionale de Clare” - with the addition of other regional choirs and special guests - presented annual concerts at Christmas and in the spring, in both Clare and Argyle.
The “Chorale de la Baie Sainte-Marie” ceased operations a few years ago, but a new group, "Les voix dans l'vent", was born. The tradition of performing shows continues, in conjunction with the “Fanfare régionale de Clare”; these shows are as popular as ever.
