A new building for the Fire Department in West Pubncio, 1954. This building was demolished to make way for a new building in 1990.
The first meeting in the new fire hall was held on December 27, 1954, and most firemen turned out for the meeting. Fire Chief Sylvester J. Amirault opened the meeting by saying that from now on, with a new fire station, things would be strictly business. The building had cost a bit above budget, with the total cost coming to $9,222.08. Six years later the bill was paid in full, and a small mortgage-burning ceremony took place.
This building was demolished on January 14, 1990, and a new fire hall was built in 1991.
The first fire truck purchased was a two-year-old three-ton Ford truck, single axle, of the 1950 type and all the new equipment installed. This truck could only carry 500 gallons of water so it was necessary to dig many sump wells, with wire fences around them, at different locations in the village. The people in front of the truck are: Fire Chief Sylvester J. Amirault; Thadée d’Eon; Robert Joe Amirault; Allan, son of Brad d’Entremont; Benoit, son of Césaire d’Entremont; and Stanley (Eef) d’Entremont.
