The local newspaper "The Outlook" mentions basketball as early as 1903. in April of 1903 men of Middleton organized a basketball team and by 1909 they had enough interest for a first and second team. Women of Middleton were also interested in basketball. In 1912 they organized some ladies basketball games in one of the unused rooms in the town hall. Basketball really took off after the new high school was built in 1949, providing a gymnasium for teams to play in.
