Separate winter vans were made when changing the summer van's wheels to skis proved too difficult. The skis made it easier to travel on the roads. Even with the added ease of skis, back then there were no snow ploughs to clear the roads which meant that sometimes it was still too dangerous and school had to be cancelled.
