Admiral Digby Museum

It was forty years ago on February 2nd, 1976 that southwestern Nova Scotia experienced one of the worst storms in recent history. For a storm lasting just eighteen hours, it did hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. At the height of the storm the tide happened to be at its highest which exacerbated the damaging effects. Without electricity or a wood stove, some families would have a very cold few days. The pictures shown are of downtown Weymouth and Westport. Many older buildings were lost or severely damaged. The fishing industry lost revenue due to the destruction to their buildings and vessels.
