Admiral Digby Museum

On June 1st, 1887, a light was erected on the Digby Pier, Annapolis Basin. It was a fixed red light, elevated eighty eight feet above high water and could be seen from a distance of 6 miles. In 1903 the Digby Pier Light was replaced and again in 1926. During the 1960’s the Digby Pier Light ceased operating as a navigable light and was declared surplus by the Canadian Coast Guard and moved to the Saint John Coast Guard Base in 1970. In 1973 the Digby Pier Light was given to Saint John for the opening of the new City Hall and placed beside Loyalist Plaza. In 2009, Digby Mayor Ben Cleveland makes mention of the Digby Pier Light to then Saint John Mayor Ivan Court. There was no further contact until 2011 when the Town of Digby made further inquiries. On August 14th, 2012 the Town of Digby formally requested the return of the Digby Pier Light which was returned to Digby on board the Princess of Acadia Ferry on October 19th, 2012.
