As Judge M.B. DesBrisay noted in his book ,i>History of the County of Lunenburg, there had been many who opposed the building of the railway, but in 1873 Liberal Member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly, Mr. DesBrisay presented a bill to incorporate the Nictaux and Atlantic Railway. The last spike for the Nova Scotia Central Railway was driven on October 14, 1889. Judge DesBrisay bought the first ticket issued by the railroad and was allowed to keep it as a souvenir.
