Historically our rural economy has been resource based; with fishing being an important element.
John Duncan Brown (1904-1977) on the left is pictured here on the Livingstone’s Cove wharf with his brother-in-law Alexander AKA Sander Gillis (1927-1972) dressing the hake. Brown, a lifelong fisherman from the Georgeville area made his living from the sea. There was a season for lobster—May and June; salmon June 15 - Aug 15; hake/cod summer into fall; mackerel and gaspreaux ran in the summer.
Sander Gillis sought a career in the military and served during the Korean War.
